Computer gaming systems like the Xbox 360 or the Nintendo Wii are some of the of the most popular birthday and Christmas gifts for children these days and they allow gamers the freedom of playing a huge variety of video games without ever leaving the home. These types of gifts don’t come cheap, so some considerations must be given before the purchase is made.

When conducting your own research into which game system to buy, parents should also think about issues regarding safety, since the nature of interactive and social games, mean the young player may be exposed to potential hazards and further more, if the game platform is connected online, they will be interacting directly with other players in the anonymous cyber word.

Needless to say, parents must lead by example and set standards and guidelines for their children to follow regarding the nature of the games they will be playing and prohibit games that may be inappropriate or intended for a more mature audience.

It is vital parents apply these values and safety measure in regard to gaming system that we bring into our homes so that the positives from this far outweigh the potential negatives.

Perhaps the first measure of safety that a parent can implement once the game console has found its way into the home is to limit the amount of play time children are allowed with the game system. It’s easy for a child’s life to become out of balance once one of these game consoles have entered the home and they can easily begin to neglect other important aspects of their lives like schoolwork, exercising and socializing with friends.

The second thing you might want to consider is to avoid violent games and replace them with those that involve logic, critical thinking and problem solving skills. Games involving musical instruments or any type of game relating to sports can be equally as interesting and challenging. Let your kids know up front that you will be censoring what games they are exposed to and are concerned about their safety to avoid dealing with any difficult questions or misunderstandings in the future.

Another safety tip is to make sure the game console stays in an area where a parent can easily observe what game in being played by the kids.

As a parent the best thing to do is to just use good common sense when making these choices for their children and after all, these games are supposed to be fun and entertaining and never harmful.

If you’re buying the game for younger kids, the plug and play type is probably the best way to go since it will certainly eliminate the online hazard.

Life Is A Journey In: Crayola Colorful Journey

Crayola Colorful JourneyBegin your adventure through Crayola Land as either the character; Violet or Fillup. With the Nintendo Wii you can design shapes and create the scenery along the way. In simpler terms, this is basically an interactive, high-tech coloring book.

The young player begins by choosing one of three levels of difficulty; they should start of course, with the easy mode and progress as they become more comfortable with the game and using the control console. Once play has begun, the character that is chosen (Violet or Fillup) will start to move through the landscape along with the pet dog.

In this game you are not in direct control of the characters: Violet of Fillup but instead, control the environment that directly impacts them by drawing structures and objects and giving the color as you normally would do with a Crayola crayon in an ordinary coloring book.

The challenge is to keep pace with your chosen character by filling in all the objects and scenery with various colors before he or she exists that particular scene. This is accomplished by moving the cursor over a particular area to give color to.

Giving a certain color to a particular object can create a series of events like; coloring the clouds a dark color will create rain in the scene and cause the logs to float, from which you may form a bridge to cross the body of water. This is just one example of how this is a logic based game and challenges the young player to develop their critical thinking skills.

The young players, whom the game is designed for, will enjoy the bouncy background music which seems to fit well with the progression of the game. There are also amusing sound effects to fit different scenarios as you carry on in you journey.

Cate West: The Vanishing FilesIf you are like so many gamers these days, you have found hidden object games to be some of the most interesting on the market. Live vicariously through the character Cate West, a woman who possesses extra-sensory perception allowing her the ability to solve for complex investigations assisting the police in their most challenging cases.

This is not Cate’s first attempt as an investigator since she has been asked many times in the past to help solve complex cases where the detectives have had a difficult time finding any leads in their cases and must look for alternatives.

As you work along-side Cate you’ll find it challenging to uncover the 1000+ clues among the 57 background scenes designed for the Wii platform as well as direct download to your PC.

You have the option of playing in either the normal mode (where you race against the clock) or the relaxed mode, where time is not a factor in the game but are awarded bonus point for solving clues early.

There are a total of five different investigative methods in all that are used to solve the cases. You begin with assisting the detectives by gathering as much information about a particular case as possible before even visiting the crime scene.

This game is often different from some of the hidden object and matching game since at times; instead of just being given a list to work from, there will often be a simple riddle that will determine the object in question.

Your investigations will lead to the hide-out of the perpetrators and from there your clairvoyant powers will come into play as a couple of clues will pinpoint the accused from the list of subjects. These clues will often be in the form of an object or a number or something else that may seem completely arbitrary to anyone else.

The accused then stands trial and with all the admissible evidence, either an acquittal or a conviction will be decided by the court of law. As Cate West all you can do is lead the detectives in the right direction from there the evidence they obtain is what really counts in putting away the bad guy or gal.
