Tidy Up a Bit With: The Scruffs

A British Suburban family not known for keeping their house tidy has suddenly found themselves in dire financial straights in this hidden object game. The father, who appears to be the sole bread-winner, has received a phone call from work notifying him of his employment termination.

This is grim news for everyone and tells his family that the house must be sold since there are bills to be paid and no money coming in. Grandpa, on the other hand has great news; He has a list of items that if sold can bring in enough money pay all the bills and keep the house.

You have the option at the beginning of play whether you want to play a timed or relaxed version of this game. If it’s your first time playing you might want to try the relaxed version first.

You begin your scavenger hunt at either the boy’s room or the front-yard, either way you’re in for a challenge. Although there doesn’t seem to be many objects in any of the scenes, all the items that you will be searching for are very well camouflaged and difficult to spot.

Luckily the family dog “Scruffy” is there with you through every scene. Although he sleeps most of the time, if you should end up stumped and unable to find an object on your list, scruffy can be bribed into showing you where one of the hidden objects is. For this service he will charge you one bone for every item. Should you run out of bones, look in each scene where one more bone will be hidden, with a total of 20 in all.

After finding the objects in each scene, you can play a mini-game and rack up additional points in between scenes.

If you consider the cast of characters, the very fitting background music and the challenging hidden object searches as well as the mini-games and the progression of the gameplay, not to mention the final outcome when Grandpa’s secret is finally revealed, this is great game with more than meets the eye.

It Takes a Trained Eye In: Can You See What I See?

In this hidden object game the eccentric proprietor of the antique shop has had a series of bad events impacting his business and his life over all. He has been been a prominent member of the community as well as being a world traveler and having political connections but most importantly he’s in need of your help.

A number of the shop owner’s collectibles were obtained as either gifts from very important people like US presidents or while traveling the world in search of rare and unique items.

This game includes a narrator who gives simple to follow instructions along the way to make the game easier to follow.

The most important task that you have is to continue filling the orders that the customers have placed by collecting everything listed on the invoices as they come in. This is done by sorting through the many bins and locating the items on the lists.

Seymour, the toy robot appears in the searching scenes and is your key to obtaining hints along the way. He remains stationary in the scene. Click on him once in order to receive a hint which you are free to use at your convience.

Time is of the essence in this game as you are only allowed a certain amount of time to collect all the items so that they can be delivered to the customers. As the game progresses the description of the items becomes less clear and you must really thing about what you are looking for.

A very useful tool in this game is the zoom feature, which allows you a much more detailed view of the area to be search in while looking for the items on the list. To utilize this, first click on the magnifying glass at the bottom right of the screen and then on one of the quadrants to be magnified and search each area at a time to locate the listed items.

Once you’ve filled in the customer’s orders by finding all of the items on the list, you’re given a riddle and shown the scene of the same items from which you’ve gathered, then you must solve the riddle and find that item. Once completed, you receive a key to open a mini matching game and then solve the final puzzle at the end of the game.

Join the Carnival Atmosphere in Dora’s Carnival 2: At the Boardwalk

Dora’s at it again and why not, what kid doesn’t love to spend time at the carnival especially if there are games to be played and prizes to be won? The better you do at the various carnival boardwalk games the more tickets you will earn and the better prizes you will be able to exchange for those tickets.

Dora the Explorer is a very popular cartoon series character and is known for being bilingual and describing thing in both the English and Spanish Languages. In this game she will count points that you have scored in some of the carnival events in Spanish as well as describe colors of objects and compliment your playing ability in Spanish as well.

Like most of Dora’s games, Carnival 2 is intended for players aged three to six years old. Dora’s instructions are very easy to follow and she will help the youngster all the way through the game, encouraging them as they do well and offering them positive feedback by saying things such as ; “Great job!” or “You’re a natural!”

As with all of Dora’s adventures, there is a map available and in this game it shows you where all of the carnival games are located on the boardwalk. All that the young player needs to do is move their cursor over any of the games and Dora will explain what it is and how to play it.

There is a variety of ten carnival boardwalk games in all with the possibility of a high score of ten points for each. One of the events is the popular carnival game skeet ball game that is hosted by a friendly game attendant pig who offers words of encouragement as the ball is lined up and rolled toward the winning slot.

At the end of each game the player has the option of re-playing that particular game, checking the map to see what other games there are to play or going over to the store and exchanging the tickets for prizes, which vary in value. Sometimes it’s better to continue playing and save up enough tickets for a better prize.

Bugsby Reading System

Arriving this fall 2009, is the well anticipated: VTech Bugsby reading system. This state of the art reading system, which is in all reality a talking book, included with it is an electronic stylus. All one has to do is point and touch a particular word or picture in the book and it is read aloud for the young reader by the device.

This particular reading system is another addition to three others systems that all employ dotted media technology developed by Poingo Publications International along with Tag and Tag Junior available from the Leapfrog Corporation. This is the technology that allows the stylus when placed over a particular word to sound it out by de-coding the printed symbols.

The books are only able to work properly with one of the above mentioned stylus. For the price of $30 you will get the stylus and one of the books. Any additional books that will work with the stylus will cost you an additional $13.

You’ll want to start by getting whatever book you have synched with Bugsby. This process is often different than with other systems. You start by installing the batteries and then place the ROM driver, which is of thumb-size and is located in the back cover of the book to be used into the Bugsby unit. It must be remembered that if this cartridge is missing the system won’t function.

Once the simple installation is completed and the system is turned on, which will likely require the help of an adult, the young participant is free to read along with the help of the stylus as it can be dragged along the sentences and the audible narration is heard aloud. The young reader may choose to only pick out particular words if that’s what they want to do.

There are more options of reading material for the young reader like; Wow Wow Wubbzy, Olivia, Dora the Explorer and many more. There is an optional soundtrack that plays along with the narration but that can be muted the reader prefers. Bugsby is due to hit stores this Fall season 2009.

Anyone can learn to read with Reader Rabbit

Reader Rabbit educational games were originally made available back in 1986 and are still to this day are a very popular form of reading educational material.
The edutainment (entertainment & education) game; Reader Rabbit for preschool kindergarten, allows children aged 3 to 6 to go on a fun adventure with the main character Reader Rabbit and meet all of his animated friends along the way.

The Reader Rabbit series starts out at the post infant level of the series from the beginning level which will take the child all the way through the second grade level. The young players begin the game by becoming acquainted with the many character like; Matt the Mouse, Sam the Lion, Wonder Pony and Mimi Rabbit who just happens to be Reader’s sister.

There are also a number of minor characters that your child will meet on his/her journey to becoming a competent reader.

If you want to see improvements in you child’s reading skills or introduce them to reading for the first time then Reader Rabbit is an excellent choice. From the very basic sounding out of the letters to the more advanced sentence formations, the Reader Rabbit series has it all.

Tic-Tac-Toe

Tic Tac Toe Game Where you draw the line is entirely up to you in this fun, entertaining and easy to play game. All that you need to get started is a pen and paper and basic understanding of how to play the game. We all remember the simplified version Tic-Tac-Toe. Now a twist has been added; instead of the standard three, four marks in a row are needed to create a line. This can be in any direction vertical horizon or diagonal.

You start by drawing a ten by ten grid containing 100 squares or you can draw a larger grid with more squares if you prefer, that is entirely up to the players in the game and agreed upon before play begins. Different letters of the alphabet are assigned to each player which represents their personal mark.

The game begins with the first player marking any one square of his choice with his assigned letter in an attempt to line up four of his letters. If the participants in game decide to make the grid with more than just the standard 100 squares, the patterns become more complex and interesting. It might be fun to try playing this game on a standard sheet of graph paper and require six in a row instead of four to form a string.

For an added twist, why not agree before-hand to require two strings instead of the standard one to win and allow then to be joined at any point on the grid. You will see all sorts of interesting patterns developing; from T’s to L’s to V’s.

The Ring

The Ring is a simple game to play game, where the participants follow the instructions of the leader as the game progressively changes.

1. A leader is chosen and all the players form a circle by holding hands. It is better to have a grown-up as the leader if the participants are young children.

2. The person leading the game will make the statement; “The circle is getting smaller.” This is an instruction to all the players who make up the circle to move towards the center to make the circle as small as possible.

3. The leader of the game, this time will say; “The circle is getting bigger.” Then the participants will begin to move away from the center while releasing the hands of the other players and walking backwards while increasing the size of the circle.

4. The commands of the leader can vary from; “The circle will jump, sit bow, and spin around.” This came can continue for as long as the players wish to play.

The Circle

This is a kid’s game that should be led by an adult supervisor where a participant’s reaction time is put to the test.

1. A circle large enough for players to stand in is drawn on the floor with chalk. The circle needs to be large enough for players to move freely inside.

2. The person leading the game begins by saying; “In” the players involved in the game will jump into the circle and everyone stands there with their feet together.

3. Your key to success in this game is to do the opposite of what the player leading the game says to do and the choices are either; “in” or “out” If all the players should happen to be outside the circle and the leader say “out!” then the players stay put. Commands are given two at a time in an attempt to trip up the players.
